Because clearly the others thought going out, in the evening, around a lake, just after it rained, was a fun activity. Considering how they made fun of her on the way out, it’s hard to argue that she had an obligation to tell them. She didn’t.
 
And, in fairness, Starlight and Twilight should have known better too.

Twi: He’s my assistant.  
Star: More like your slave.  
Twi: You’re one to talk, Miss “I had an entire village under my control”.  
Star: It’s more then you’ve ever controlled, “Princess”.  
Twi: You know, you don’t have to worry about mosquitoes ON THE MOON.  
Star: And here we go with the moon threat again.
 
Spike left the room when they started arguing, and Moon Dancer started recording when they walked in the room.
