I guess Sombra’s statement is a meta-commentary on the fact that Mac and Rainbow were drawn by a different artist, thus having them in a different style than he would normally “see” them.

The concept of crack shipping is kind of busted as it is. Actual crack shipping is what we’re calling crossover shipping, at least in this fandom. After that, no one can seem to agree, you have people calling every ship they don’t like/understand a crack ship, then there’s the issue of crack shipping comes with the expectation of shock value and the more something is shipped, the less shock value it has and the less it feels like a crack ship even if the idea in canon is still preposterous.
 
What’s worse, then there’s the problem of canon changing things. Discoshy was a crackship before season 3, what with him being a sworn enemy of the mane six and frozen in stone at that time, not to mention having shown the most frustration with Fluttershy out of any of the girls. It was just last year that I myself used a random ship of the top of my head involving Starswirl as an example of crack ship citing the fact he and whoever else I was talking about didn’t even live in the same time period… then the season 7 finale happened…
