Well, they had one in common back when they’re first introduce, they didn’t exactly need friends, and now they do.

Every character has flaws, and some development. Fluttershy is less of a coward, Pinkie’s gotten smarter, Applejack’s gotten less stubborn, Rarity less prissy, the CMC less incompetent, Dashie less conceited, Discord’s gotten friendlier, ect.
All of the character’s history can be sumed up to just one quote: Their past was BEFORE, now their present is AFTER.
