He’s right though. In the case of MLP in general, it’’s gonna happen a lot. They work for a toy company, not just an animation company alone. They do what they have to to make it entertaining, but also sell toys.

Not to mention, designing the rides in the theme park, etc.

This likely comes as a shock to a lot of people, but ~9 months of 50 people’s work on a project doesn’t come for free. As is evidenced by how many people there are bitching about patreon or artist folios or artists asking for donations, the vast majority of people don’t want to pay for art. How many of you have watched these specials on TV and sat through the commercials? How many of you have bought them off Netflix or Amazon or wherever? I can’t imagine that many… A few cheap scenes to sell toys or excite people into buying the videos with “memorable” scenes is a low “”“price””” for freeloaders to “”“pay””” in order for the show/movie to exist in the first place.
 
If the product doesn’t make money they won’t make more. You can’t have any quality on a product that doesn’t exist because it wasn’t funded to begin with.
