The Tempest in this comic is rather strident in her attempts to push blame on anypony but herself.

In the movie prequel book, Tempest also had to deal with nearly disintegrating her friends with the uncontrolled magic from her broken horn (several trees were burned away instead). That shocked everyone involved and if I remember right, Tempest was more traumatized by it than her friends were, and she became somewhat antisocial and resentful.
 
The abandonment was kind of mutual.

Trauma, mutilation, rejection and abandonment.
 
Think, how traumatizing an event like an Ursa mutilating you could be for a kid. Trauma can change peoples personality and give way to all kinds of mental disorder.
 
And she was in an unsure and instable position because she had just lost the key thing that defines her as a unicorn and is also unsure because she doesn’t have her cutie mark yet.  
She doesn’t know what to do with herself and has mental baggage and everyone seems to abandon her because of those issues making them even worse in her mind.
 
Like she is just … wrong. And there’s no fixing.

But starlight had her still friend sent away, while still friends. Tempest friends pushed her away, and then after the hurt of supposed rejection, left the town afterwards.
 
Mutilation, rejection and then abandonment vs just abandonment. Theres a bit more to Tempest than starlight.

So…..this is essentially Starlight’s backstory. Just with a broken horn and a literal scar to represent her internal one. And from what I can tell, it wasn’t the scar or lack of horn that was the turning point. It was being abandoned and left behind. And while one tried to make it to where they’d be a world without the possibility that others would be separated or abandoned again the other got manipulated by someone who looks untrustworthy and had no qualms against murder if she had to. And yes people flock toward the more ruthless one and not the well meaning but extremest one.

What, she really got the scar and broken horn when she was a little kid? Seems like awkward writing.

I guess Starlight was a bit overemotional and as her episodes have proven she tends to overreact… Meanwhile Tempest was more logical.

To be fair she had more happen to her than Glimmer did.
 
Losing an important body part that is seen as essential to who you are and her friends actively abandoned her.
 
Not to mention the Ursa was a traumatising event.
 
She didn’t even get crazy just progressively more ruthless in the harsh world outside Equestria.
 
And said magic yeti made her a tempting offer.
