I don´t expect them to cuddle but at least a hoofbump in the ending would have been nice.
Dusty waited 6 years for it.
What I want to see is a friendly rivalry.
Who ever said they were on bad terms? While they probably aren’t going to be “besties” anytime soon, they clearly don’t hate each other’s guts either.
That shouldn´t be a reason for them to be on bad terms.
Especially if Dashie could have a positive influence on her over time.
True, but that doesn’t change the fact she still has her flaws from before. And Dash knows this; it’s why she ultimately declines the offer.
She did enough; she even offered her a spot.
If that isn´t an olive branch nothing is.
LD struck up a chat with Dash because the opportunity presented itself to her. She didn’t go out of her way or anything to reconcile with her former classmate.
Because none of them had expected to met the other again.
That didn´t stop Dusty from doing it.
LD never specifically planned to do any of that. Recall it was Rainbow and Scootaloo that approached the Washouts after the show, not the other way around.
If she just wanted to spare herself trouble she didn´t had to admit anything to Dashie or attempt to reconcile with her.
She ensures the stunts don’t harm the audience because she doesn’t want to get into any unnecessary trouble, not because cares about their safety. It’s not enough just to admit to you were wrong; you also have to understand why you were wrong. LD has yet to demonstrate the latter.
She did change her ways by making sure not to endanger other ponies.
She even admited that she did wrong in the past and was willing to let bygones be bygones.
And to a certain extent I agree. But none of that requires her to be reformed. Especially since she hasn’t expressed any desire to change her ways.
Her recklessnes is not a problem as long as she makes sure that nopony else is endangered.
She did stay on (relatively) good terms with Rainbow Dash when they initially interacted in the episode. The problem is that her recklessness hasn’t gone away either. It’s still very much a part of her, and behavior like that will always have the potential for trouble.
Staying on good terms with Dashie (even if they don´t agree on several issues) would not have been out of character.
Neither would taking a liking to Scootaloo.
It’s perfectly fine if LD wants to tour around perform dangerous stunts with the Washouts. In fact, I’d argue that’s the best outcome for her. But that doesn’t mean she needs to or should make a full 180 shift in personality and undergo a full reformation, especially since the Washouts only came to be because Lightning refused to let go of her past self.
I´m not missing the point.
Dusty being reckless is not a problem as long as she makes sure that she doesn´t endanger anypony else.
Which she did until the end.
She also got along well with her team.
You’re missing the point. She might have found a good fit for her with The Washouts, but she’s still reckless and self-centered at heart. The Washouts as a flying team would not even exist if that weren’t the case.
She was practically on a good way to redemption until they made her a jerk out of nowhere.
None of that changes the fact that she’s still reckless and self-centered at her core. She has to be willing to address those fundamental flaws if a reformation for her is going to be meaningful in any way.
She was also really amicable towards Dashie, talked with her about their past and even offered her a spot on her team.
I cannot blame her for not having a high opinion of the Wonderbolts after the horrible way she was treated.
Her fellow Washouts know exactly the risks they take willingly and are thrilled about it.
Until the climax she was extremely sympathetic and DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG.
But of course we cannot let her have a redemption, so we make her a jerk out of nowhere for …. reasons.
This is bad writing and only makes me wanting a redemption more then ever.

Lightning certainly didn’t appear to have a particular soft spot for Scootaloo in “The Washouts”, at least not in the same way Dash does. Rather than show any appreciation towards her fan, Lightning spends most of their first interaction gloating about herself and deriding Rainbow & her career with the Wonderbolts. The whole point of the rocket jump was for LD to test Scootaloo’s loyalty to her; Dust performing the stunt would be defeating the purpose. And while LD did admit she made mistakes during her time at the academy, the fact she formed The Washouts (and then later puts a filly in a dangerous situation without so much as a second thought) indicates she still doesn’t understand why her actions back then were wrong.
It has been a long time since the academy.
And not forcing Scootaloo to do something is everything but making a 180.
Just because Dusty is reckless that doesn´t mean she cannot have a soft spot for a little fan.
It would also be much more in character for Dusty to do the stunt herself.
By the way, she DID admit that she went to far in Wonderbolt Academy.

So having LD retain the egocentric mentality that’s been her defining trait since her very first appearance is somehow more contrived than her making a total 180 and suddenly putting others before herself despite the fact that up to that point she hadn’t shown even the slightest indication of changing her ways?
