I sorta wish this would’ve happened and SK didn’t betray Tempest. In the comics he appears to be (occasionally) good to his employees, so his betrayal of someone that worked this hard for him didn’t make much sense to me.

Well, in the real world, after the Storm King succeed for ruling the land and every city, his victory is undone because he died while trying to freeze the Mane Six (mostly Twilight) into obsidian statues but Tempest blocks it still charge towards the Storm King who falls to his death and shatters to pieces ending his tyranny over Equestria while Tempest survived the fall thanks to the Staff of Sacanas which is now used by Twilight.

Alternate world where the Storm king rules the land and every city. The Princesses turn into statue and put in Canterlot garden.  
Equestria rebellion lead by somepony.

I’d imagine they’re masks of some kind. They all share a similar build and physique to the storm king, so one would think that they’re the same species, meaning a similarly shaped skull.  
The mask would have to fit the shape of the skull in order to stay on though, which given how long they are, would point at a more elongated facial structure, like Grubber’s.  
There’s also the fact there’s no noticeable jaw on the guards, and given we do hear one of them talk, saying goodbye to Fluttershy during the retaking of Canterlot, it would have moved when he spoke, or when several of the earlier ones growled and snarled during the attack on Canterlot.  
So I’m leaning towards, yes, they’re wearing something that covers their face.

Some survivors in outside Canterlot has join the Equestria’s Force Fighters to defeat the Storm King Empire  
We need to make the fanfic story for this

Real talk, do the storm guards wear helmets or do they have skull-like faces? The movie art style makes them look like masks, but other interpretations like this make me second guess myself.
