Prices in Equestria are weird. Two bits is apparently a fair price for a single cherry, but you can also get two tomatoes for that, and Applejack will sell you a mug of cider, an apple fritter, or half a saddlebag of apples for that price. (Okay, that last one was technically Apple Bloom, but Bon Bon’s objection was not based on the price.) And that’s just the examples I can find in transcripts; I’m sure there are bigger outliers if you watch the episodes for them.
 
Even excusing that, though, I can’t see a bit equaling a yen simply because there don’t seem to be multi-bit coins and ponies aren’t seen carrying thousands of bits when they want to make purchases.
