IRL cultures that experience a disaster on the level that the griffons did usually gok through someprettty severe morale problems. Or so the history books I’ve read have stated.
That could work. Griffonstone went in shambles and so did some aspects of their culture.
Could be they used to be monogamous, but that fell apart along with the rest of griffon culture.
That’s where I got the headcanon from. Plus some real life birds, including eagles do mate for life too so it seemed fitting.
That’s apparently what the medieval lore of Griffons was - that Griffons would be mated or married for life, and even if one died they would not seek out another partner.
Hmm. There’s a heck of a similarity between this scene and the one with Scrooge and the ghost spying on the Cratchits from Mickey’s Christmas Carol. I don’t know if that makes him a Tiny Tim figure though, or even if that’s a good griffiny gname.
(This is from Gallus’s point of view, ultimately. And he’s worse off than Tiny Bald, being out on the streets. Very not a Scrooge McAnydickens. Reversal? The poor family somehow get the orphan kid a scholarship perhaps.)
Dragons seem to possibly work that way too. It could be plausible.
It kinda wrecks the headcanon I had about Griffons being good and loyal spouces and parents despite the otherwise grouchy and selfish culture Griffonstone has. (I’m not gonna lie, I’m kinda salty and disappointed over this revelation.)

Could be that once a young griffon is old enough to fend for themselves, the parent or parents just go their separate ways.
Depressing to think about for us, but griffons don’t seem sentimental of much besides their cultural past.
