Happy to have finally given the tormentors in these stories a face. :3

both are complete stories, if this is followed on it’d be a commission.

Honestly, she was never designed to end up redeemed or even likeable. We give reasons for why she does what she does and how she arrived to be in the position to do so, but it’s not meant to justify her behavior. Granted we’re used to writing characters who are more on the ridge of morality, and it may have ended up looking like you were meant to associate with her, but, nah, that was never the case. When we’re given more of her backstory, it’s meant to make her more of a 2.5D character, but not bring it close enough that she’s likeable. You’re meant to still keep on the side of seeing her as a villain. At most you’re meant to envy her, and that’s that.
This is why she’s been given a much nastier fate than pebbles, maybe not quite nasty enough… But still. So if you dislike her, you’re basically meant to. If it feels like you’re meant to like her, though, yeah, that’s an atavism of how we write characters. It’s not easy to write a character you’re meant to dislike who isn’t completely one-dimensional.
I’m saying all that as one of the two writers for the series, FYI. This in particular is Arcadias’ doing but i was very heavily involved in the writing and the story plotting.

It’s a compliment to you that you have an opionion about Obsidian like this. I means you’ve read the stories and have thoughts on our original characters. :)
For many people, she’s not someone to be liked at all. I respect that. :D
And no, that isn’t fetish stuff, I just don’t like Obsidian. While both her and Pebbles did partake in some twisted things, I feel there’s a difference between them that adds to their likability. At least for Pebbles you could claim ignorance and she at least regretted her misdeeds as part of the Iron Legion. Obsidian KNEW what she was doing and took great pride in it! The only reason she repented was because she was caught and her “toy” was taken away from her. And then there was her “bond” with Luna; at least Pebbles did have normal conversations with Celestia that gave you the impression that there was goodness in her. But with Obsidian, at no point did I ever like her and when there was an attempt to, for lack of a better term, humanize her, the damage had already been done. She gleefully and knowingly broke and imprisoned Luna and at the end of the day, I felt she got exactly what she deserved.
I’m sorry if I’m coming across as snobbish or mean-spirited here, because I’m not trying to (though I can see how my dialogue would showcase it), and this isn’t a knock against the “Breaking of” series or this piece. They’re both nice, it’s just that… Well, I don’t like Obsidian, I have very strong reasons why, and when I get into those reasons I get emotional. So again, I’m very sorry. VERY very sorry.
