It’s impossible to “cover all bases”. There are so many tags on Derpi that you could spend hours for every upload researching what tags to put in and you’d still miss something obvious and then someone will yell at you in the comments for not tagging their blacklisted fetish or Equestria Girls ship.
 
If you add your artist tag, character names and types (pony, dragon, etc.), “oc only” and “solo” when applicable, background type (transparent/white/black/etc.), art type (traditional, digital, etc.), episode name(s), and possible shipping tags, then you’re already on the winning side *. The remaining tags will be added over time by other people passing by.
 
Looking at your uploads, you figured out tagging practically immediately. None of them need the “tags needed” tag anymore. I see lots of newcomers and I’ve cleaned up some truly heinous mass-upload tag vomits made by first timers. But you seem to be an exception, at worst you miss a tag or two. I’d upvote your account if I could. If you keep tagging like you’ve done so far, I doubt many will complain.
 
My aversion to tags like “tags needed” is mostly personal, old and deep-rooted, going all the way back to Ponibooru. Back then, sometimes people uploaded an image and tagged it just “tagme” and nothing more. I wince, hard, every time I see “tag me” tags because it reminds me of that mess.
 
*) Seriously, we got some truly bad uploaders around here, some of them uploading dozens of images every day with only a few tags each, sometimes not even bothering to put in sources, and we others constantly have to clean up after them. They know they’re poor taggers, they just don’t care.

Oh, thanks for the tip, but I’m a little confused.
 
I only use it if I’m uncertain that all bases have been covered, as I’ve only been tagging for a few days. The plan of course is to study what’s added or removed and build enough experience that I won’t feel like I need to ask for help - which I assumed was its core function, yes?
 
Even if it ends up superfluous, I don’t see the harm in a loose tag that doesn’t have any other application and that nobody is looking for (Or blacklisting? Who would blacklist that?) if it means these images are delivered to the right people sooner.
 
But, if you really think my tagging is strong enough, I’ll leave it out from now on.

You don’t have to tag your uploads with “tags needed”. Most of your images already have enough tags, either added by you when you upload it, or by others afterwards. The problem is that no one removes the “tags needed” tag after it becomes unnecessary, so it’s best to never use it.
