Well, by “last couple of seasons” I ment season 6 onwards. There are good and great episodes in those seasons, but also a bit more episodes I didn’t really cared for, compared to previous seasons, say, season 5.

I’d say 1-3. They have plenty of bad and meh episodes, and I’d say about the same as newer seasons. Season 1 was especially dull to me, so newer seasons are better than where the series started in my opinion.

Well, things you’ve mentioned were in The Simpsons even when it was good. The real problem is that now Simpsons became a zombie show: it’s not funny, not clever, not interesting, it just keeps spinning it’s wheels because it can.
 
Back to ponies. As sad as it is, I’m okay with the show ending while it’s still good. Last couple of seasons showed that it became hard to pump out 26 great episodes each year, even so great episodes still happen every season. So it’s a pretty good place to stop.
