I think Moondancer considered Twilight her best friend (though Twilight obviously didn’t feel the same way) because of their similarities, and that’s why Moondancer took it so hard when Twilight didn’t show up.

In her eyes, the others showed up out of pity and politeness. Twilight, the one pony who she really connected with, didn’t give her a thought and just left without even a goodbye.

There was an attempt
This kinda loses some of its impact when you remember it was just Twilight that was antisocial back then, and everyone else wanted, and STILL wanted Moondancer to come out of her shell and be more open.

She basically became a shut-in just because another well-known shut-in didn’t go to her birthday. In a sense, its like when Starlight became a villain just because a friend from her childhood moved away, except Moondancer’s reaction was much less extreme despite still being a bit of an overreaction.
