I thought CGI was not a good decision, but to each his own. I’ve read arguments about time constraints on the makers and arguments on wanting to give the wolves a different feel than the rest of the enviroment.
 
Whatever the reason is fine and they didn’t do a bad job, it just to me feels faker than the top, which is more creepy. To top is off, this episode was kind of weak IMO. Hope this isn’t a pattern of using CGI.

Yeah, that CGI stabbed me in the eye the moment I saw it too. It in tone with the show, but still stand out. I think, that was not horrible, but still not good decision.

What, so there’s no way they could have rendered the wolves in Flash? Come on guys, they’re only like 85 separate pieces that you have to stitch together seamlessly. LAZY.

I think the unexpected CG made them much more threatening, because they seemed to want to come straight out of the screen - no silly shades required!

When the branch hit it, the t-wolf was knocked off the ground and his back legs are still running.
 
Just your typical cartoon physics gag.  
Although the fact that vicious wild animals have access to Pinkie Pie’s abilities is slightly worrisome.

Is it me, or is the Timberwolf who lost his forelegs in the bottom panel still running while he’s soaring through the air? I forget it he was jumping when that happened or what. But it seems odd he’d be doing that still…
 
But I digress. Personally I didn’t mind the CGI wolves that much. And frankly didn’t notice the differences until now. Rather interesting, to say the least…
 
Perhaps there are two [sub-]species of Timberwolf?

I thought the CGI timberwolves looked good but fitted awkwardly over the 2D Flash world.
 
The BIG Timberwolf, on the other hoof, is much better.
