Kind of reminds me of the Skrulls from Marvel. They’re shapeshifters that took on the form of several characters in secret, but had assumed the identities of the people they’d pretended to be for so long they had forgotten they were Skrulls at all.
 
Would be kind of interesting to see a story about a Changeling experiencing something similar.
