I guess ’cause they look more generic, and plastic-y. But I like the unique sticker labels the Japanese carts have.  
Though, I agree, the American cartridges look better, and more unique.

I agree that the label art was usually nicer and showed some effort, but I feel that the NA carts themselves looked a bit better. Something about the curves on the Japanese carts is just off-putting somehow.

Interestingly, Super Mario World is subtitled “Super Mario World: Super Mario Bros. 4” in Japan, while “Donkey Kong Country” was renamed “Super Donkey Kong” when it was brought to Japan. (It was made by Rareware a British company, so the english version was made first.)
