Because people who refuse to see a Godzilla film because it’s too goofy spread rumors of it being lame and rather flat.

My Little Pony - 1992 Edition

Fans love this film, so why is it doing so badly in the theaters? I’ve been told by unhappy kaiju fans that it had a lousy opening weekend.

This “Eiji” thing is news to me. Back in 2014, the internet was really pushing the “Ishiro is related to Daisuke” angle.

About Emma, I dunno…I think the magnitude of what she was trying to achieve (complete annihilation of the human race) makes me hard to sympathize for her. I get that they were going for the “sympathetic villain” angle, but to me, it just doesn’t work. Then again, I don’t buy Thanos as a “sympathetic villain”, either.

Okay…

  1. Daisuke Serizawa does not exist in the Monsterverse. Ishiro’s father’s name was Eiji (after Eiji Tsubaraya).

  2. Eiji did NOT want to kill Godzilla. Heck, he didn’t even regard him as a menace. If anything, Eiji is where Ishiro saw Godzilla as the one in charge of keeping the other Titans or superspecies in check and he was actually trying to prove Godzilla’s existence to the world in the comic Godzilla: Awakening.

  3. This is really more of dramatic irony since Serizawa in the original ’54 film sacrificed himself to kill Godzilla whereas Ishiro sacrificed himself to save Godzilla.

  4. Of course Emma wasn’t thinking rationally. She took Ishiro’s words of Godzilla and the other Titans being the change the world needed too much to heart that she enrolled Alan Jonah to help her. However, even so, it took Madison calling her out to realize maybe letting loose a three-headed, psychotic, alien dragon that was pretty much a living, breathing hurricane from his cryogenic power nap might have catastrophic results. Heck, Jonah himself called her out on this, and he was meant to be the film’s main villain (which he was, but more in the vein of someone like Lady Eboshi or Princess Kushana).
