My headcanon is that discord was attempting to teach them friendship(which they almost did during their search for Grogar’s bell), but backfired spectacularly

The villains backstabbing Grogar just happened here. And if Grogar betrayed the remaining villains, it would’ve been redundant since the “villain betrays henchmen” trope has already happened twice before.

And they could’ve had a bit of backstory like “she was manipulated in her past”. Like, she decides to use that friendship for power to make up for the fact that her past was manipulated and ruined for her. The only thing she sees now to make things better is to have power and use that power for her own gains. That’s the only way for her to no longer feel powerless or manipulated.

My guess is a way to mess with the concept of teaching “Friendship is magic” to kids while being able to defeat powerful villains, with the whole Friendship School thing. Cozy Glow took that whole concept and interpreted it in a more selfish way, “Friendship is power!” and all. Essentially, we the audience see that in a world like MLP, Friendship has and is a source of actual power, and Cozy Glow is an attempt by a smart and morally twisted kid to exploit that for her own gain…  
Other than that, I got nothin’. Even that aside, if I’m right, then they basically made a villain just to further mock or play with the very concept of the show for which it was named.

I don’t even understand what they were trying to go for her? Were the writers trying to say she was “born evil” or something, you gotta give us some backstory to see why she acted like this. Even Chrysalis had some for fred fuchs sake…

Not disagreeing, as the reason I know so little is because I stopped watching the show after the finale of season 6, and thanks to what I saw after that through being a part of the fandom, I see nothing that has made me regret my decision. The most I watched were some scattered episodes that caught my eye, which were only 2 or 3 at that, and watching some clips.
 
Cozy Glow’s very concept makes me feel like puking, as to me it shows how utterly worthless the actual serious side of MLP’s “good vs. evil” became, with a confusing abomination like her taken so seriously…that, and what they did to downgrade and tear apart Chrysalis…

But that’s not an interesting villain when you have her side by side by the likes of the other villains. You need different motivations for different villains. Otherwise, they’ll start blending into each other. This season would’ve been great if it developed both our heroes and our villains.

I think it’d be worse. At least Grogar didn’t have much character or arc developed. Cozy we’ve known for a while now…and for it to just be another disguise for Discord would be…bad…
