While I admit that the final battle could’ve been better and the villains defeated was seemingly recycled from previous episode as they were defeated the same way Nightmare Moon and at the time Discord was defeated and speaking of which the fact that this was all caused by Discord was a slap to the face.
 
I’d be find with the epilogue of Twilight going through her ceremony and saying her goodbyes to their friends while going their separate ways while staying in contact but the pattern with the time skips are starting to get redundant and MLP’s not even the first to do this.

I don’t see an issue with his design, to be honest. He’s more in line with the other teenage dragon bodytypes and he’s closer to his dream body than his toddler body (don’t forget that he was considered a baby dragon, and that the various adult forms he showed through magical growth were VASTLY different from his usual self as well).

I think older spike should at least look like something similar to the design he had through out the series.

My problem with Spike’s design is his jaw and that his wings are too small. If they had fixed those, I feel it’d be a lot better.

That’s exactly why I said I was playing devil’s advocate and assumed that could be the reason for her design and possibly pay tribute to Lauren as she did in fact drew a design similar to this in the past. But at the same time, her design does feel like a re-skin of Celestia’s and MLP is notorious for that kind of thing because everyone (most specifically the ponies) literally have the same design in the show.
 
It’s not just the princesses who have this problem but even the non-princesses such as Fleur De Lis, Sassy Saddles and Fire Flare share similar designs.

My last comment was my warped sense of sarcasm.  
My next point is a something of a fact if I remember how the show was being designed early on,  
Lauren didn’t want to constrain the show to anything particular,  
If they strictly shape the show to a particular style or demographic,  
Then they will have a harder time later on changing when they have something better to go with.  
This is why I believe a lot of people feel like their favorite characters lack story or depth,  
As if they commit too firmly to any sort of ridgedly written story,  
they may decide to go a different route later on but have already committed to something.  
A good example would be with Big McIntosh, if you look back at season 1 and try to find out  
what their plans were for him, it probably wasn’t that he was going to marry a character that hasn’t even been designed yet.  
Same with Lyra and Bon Bon.  
But I think I have brought up everything that I feel like ranting about now, let me know if you have any other points to bring up, I’m at work right now and I’m bored to death~

What, they can’t pay homage to the reason the show got popular in the first place? Because that’s not “fanatical following”, that’s straight fact. Lauren designed Friendship Is Magic to be appealing to everyone, not just be a dumb toy commercial you throw your toddlers in front of when you don’t feel like parenting. Regardless of how you may feel about how the show ended, nothing will change that fact.

It most likely was, given it’s almost exactly the same design that Lauren Faust had drawn so many years ago. And yet some people are saying that it doesn’t work because “the princesses are different than when Lauren was with the show”. So what? it’s a design, not a personality.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Twilight’s Celestia-like design is made to be an homage to Lauren. I think its a nice way to say that the crew has had respect for her till the very end.
