Twilight…
Rarity began nervously, looking down at the ground.
… You know that you said the clone was spouting drivel and nonsense this whole time… then… well…
Twilight instantly understood Raritys fears. The clone had previously claimed that simply practicing her talent would return her magic and cutie mark. She turned to her unicorn friend wearing a solemn expression.
Well Rarity, the thing is Ive never seen something like this before
Her friends head and ears lowered further still with every word she uttered.
Its an unusual thing, in order to use magic you need the talent, but to get the talent you need the magic. Colts and fillys generally have a kind of base magic that helps them get it
For once, Twilight realised that she was about to go into a full on lecture about magic and cutie marks, so she quickly and abruptly stopped herself, as well as to spare Rarity any further torture. As she stood before her heartbroken friend, her ears pricked up as an idea suddenly struck her.
Come on Rarity! Im not giving up yet
Twilight gently tugged the miserable white unicorn with her back to her boutique, if her idea were to work, then Rarity would need all of the privacy she could get.
With care, Twilight magically locked the door to the uppermost room of the boutique after Rarity. Then, a second magical aura emanated across the entire room, slowly seeping into the cracks and crevices everywhere, until eventually it faded into the walls.
What was that for Twilight?
Rarity inquired with a nonchalant curiosity.
Soundproofing
Responded the lilac unicorn swiftly. Rarity cocked her head with an unsure look.
S-soundproofing? For what?
Without responding, Twilight trotted up to her friend and physically turned the confused unicorn to look at the desk by the fabric shelves. Upon it lay a few spools of differently coloured threads and a two-tone green vase. For a moment, Rarity suspected that Twilight had just brought her here to rub her loss in her face. Before she could ask however, her friend leaned closer and whispered gently into her lowered ear.
Do you remember how magic felt?
Rarity wasnt sure what to make of this sudden move, slowly beginning to blush. She briefly recalled how she hated blushing with a passion because of her white coat, and simply hoped that Twilight wouldnt notice.
I I think so
She answered nervously.
Try and feel it again, remember how youd feel trying to move say that vase on the desk
Rarity noted the vase and took a moment to compose herself before straining her muscles slightly, with no result. Twilight shook her head and spoke softly.
No, dont force it close your eyes and try to remember
The white unicorn breathed calmly in through her snout and out through her mouth, closed her eyes, and began to try and physically recall the feeling of magic. Twilight watched to make sure she had closed them completely and, when she had, began to channel a gentle flow of magic through Rarity, making sure it was only very, very subtle.
She gasped with excitement and giggled a little.
T-Twilight! I can feel it!
Dont stop now Rarity, youre doing it!
Rarity was concentrating too hard and enjoying the experience too much to open her eyes and see the vase beginning to shake and shudder on the desk. The feeling wasnt completely alien to her, she had simply forgotten the satisfying tingle of discovering her hidden talent she had known so long ago.
The unicorn wailed with happiness and began to cry tears of joy as a glow began to appear around her horn, she could feel her real magic coming back to her. Twilight opened an eye and spotted this, and gasped as she realised that something was beginning to appear on Raritys flanks.
