What is going on here? Well, catchlights orientation. Look closely at the ‘wrong’ one, notice how the white shines in his eyes are mirrored, while on the ‘right’ one they are not? This is a common mistake people make, especially with forward facing but can affect other angles too. If you mirror the pupil and iris, you need to remember to flip the catchlights so it looks proper. It’s a small thing but it makes a huge difference in how things look.
Now, I’m not perfect, I consistently made this mistake for over a year and a half, but I learned, I try to make sure I don’t mess up anymore. I might still have a few vectors that are incorrect, and I’ll admit mistakes happen. But I hope I can teach at least one person to pay attention to this now. I can’t turn off my eyes for noticing it in other’s artwork now, for better or worse.
I just chose a super basic sitting ‘looking at you’ pose to use as an example for fun.
No tutorial version.
another gotcha is that catchlights shouldn’t be exactly translated. they should be shifted around a bit, since each eye sees (and reflects) a slightly different angle of the scene.
thank you
The circles (called catchlights) can go outside of the iris in some situations, yes. I have never done that tho. I tend to avoid extreme expressions but it’s still fine to do.
it’s not for the spawn demon.
is what the eye is made up of, well, it is not necessary to say what composes it but rather the rules of how an eye should be.
in resumen: the brightness of the eye that are small circles may be outside the iris a little or not
What do you mean by that second part? All of the colors are distinct individual pieces.
I had doubts about the brightness of the eyes and one of those is if you could also leave the area of the eye to the white or just have it inside the iris
That’s the intent.
Tho I did intentionally once mirror them.
Just to showcase extra derpiness.

Really takes a little bit of learning to get it ingrained into your head, but it’s satisfying when you remember.
