but what really gets to me about this is the harsh reminder that these ponies that we love, and just waved goodbye too, are just products. a cute facade of something souless to be mercilessly commercialized.
I just forget that aspect, so it just seems wrong and tasteless for them to be promoting some simulacra of our dear friends so soon after the end.
DONT ASK QUESTIONS, JUST CONSUME PRODUCT, THEN GET EXCITED FOR NEXT PRODUCT

And it’s not just MLP, basically all cartoons that air on TV are commercialized - what do you think helps pay for them? Animation’s not exactly cheap, and the revenue generated by commercials alone isn’t nearly enough to cover it. The relationship between cartoons and their toy lines is a symbiotic one. If the show becomes popular, the toys will sell well; if the toys sell well, the show gets to keep going. It’s a pretty simple relationship to wrap your head around, which is why I personally find it irritating that people can be so willfully cynical as not to acknowledge it. Does the anti-capitalist soapbox have a built-in foot massager or something? Nobody ever seems to want to step off of it…

Yeah, the art style is… unpromising. As was the attitude of the characters in the promo.
Although considering that was probably put together by a marketing department it’s likely it’s a lot worse than the end product is going to be, but you never know.
well put. this is pretty much the approach I am making, wait and see. if there is still integrity and passion behind the project, then great!
however the art style of FiM is one of the things that drew me into the fandom in the first place, so changing it to this more WiLd N WaCkY! style is a bit off setting for me.
The owners of the IP are unlikely to ever care about the quality of their product as long as it remains a viable revenue stream. You just have to hope that the team working on the adaptation of that IP care enough about it to make it a quality work.
The team working on FiM did care about it, for the most part. Now we have to wait and see if there’s any passion put into the next installment.
