Thanks for everyone who send me some nice words. You all really helped boost my confidence. Ill try to be a bit more assertive gotta rewatch that Iron Will episode some time
Just a thought, but maybe whoever made the contract with Dawnstar may have affected her mind. Turning the envy and jealousy into hatred. Again, just a thought.
Honestly, I believe this story isn’t that horrible as you guys make it out to be (Maybe I haven’t burned out on sympathy stories). While the reason’s cliche, but it’s understandable. Let’s see how Dawn gets over her hatred, defeat the entity, and be a better person on this journey of hers.
When I was in my first year of grade school, and yes, I am Asian, the first thing we’re thought is that life was about competition and that everyone around us was, at the same time, an adversary and a friend. I’m not going to say that I never felt envious of the Year Six valedictorian getting that award, because I did, but I didn’t expect sympathy from anyone; neither did anyone else in my class for that matter.
Some people passed, some people failed, some excelled beyond all measure and turned people green. I did turn green, but if I came up short, that was my problem, no one else’s. When you’re eleven years old you kind of understand that there’s a bunch of things in life you’ll never get. The best you can do is the best you can do.
Dawnstar’s a real poor character in that sense in that she’s immature and CALLOUSLY made by the author to generate a sense of sympathy, which is a fail on an incredibly poignant level.
So screw you, Dawnstar. Screw your poor characterization and all the My Little Dashie and Nyx wannabes all to the throat of Oblivion.
I don’t get what people are freaking out about. A kid is trying to follow in the family business and doesn’t seem to have a knack for it. A hotshot newcomer arrives and the idolized professor’s resources, of time and emotion, are both going to be finite. Indeed, if magic’s not really her talent, Princess Celestia might have been doing her a favor by sending her out, not that that would have been obvious to the starstruck young filly.
It’s not Twilight’s fault, or anyone’s really. It’s just one of those hard knocks that the world isn’t going to run without unless there aren’t any people in it. Some days somebody’s better than you.
If Dawnstar didn’t have some character flaw this would be a much more boring story. In this case, she’s jealous, and for an understandable if irrational reason. Why don’t we watch and see how she comes to grips with that?
Well I don’t think this a bad story right now. Yes, the premise is a bit played out,but I want to see how it goes. I feel a bit sorry for her, but I’m not bawwing my eyes out.
In all honesty though, she is perfectly justified in her hatred of Twilight, no matter how cliche the circumstances. And you know what? I can sympathize. It isn’t fair that those who toil and suffer and work their hooves bloody to hone their skills are neglected and forgotten in favor of those who shoot to the top on the power of others.
Sure, sure, that’s how the world works. But what about us, the downtrodden masses that work ourselves raw? What do we get? The answer is nothing. It doesn’t matter how hard you work or how badly you want something, you will always lose to the lucky one, whether it’s a matter of money or mere circumstance.
Perhaps hatred is a little too strong a word… But seething envy? Absolutely.
…Yeah, not buying it. This is just another attempt to garner sympathy, and it’s cheap. Cheap, cheap, cheap. Obviously whoever’s drawing and writing this is just trying to get our pity. Well, they have mine.
Because it’s so bad and one-dimensional that I can’t help but feel sorry for whatever poor sod came up with this tripe. They’re good artists in making use of shapes and vectors for an art-style reminiscent of a few Marvel artist runs in Minimalism, but ultimately are terrible and cheap (Yes, I said it again) by pushing all the blame on one source that’s already established in the show.
This is a stupid concept, and you know who I blame for starting it?
I’m looking somewhere between Nyx and Dashie. These two have warped sympathetic reading so badly within the fandom that they’ve become templates.
Terrible spins on events and an expectation to bring people to tears without concern on background, driving forces and a good twist to keep things going every now and again.
At least Dawnstar has a reason to dislike Twilight. Having a huge chip on her shoulder, not being able to use magic, Twilight out-besting everyone, Celestia neglecting her, and finally the Princess tells her to give up–crushing her dreams.

because the “my life sucks and i will blame someone evn if is not its direct fault” is very cliche.

@MagnificentTrixie
Well said, Trixie.

How many goddamn characters like this do we need? I hope Ponyville utterly breaks her on a level not even Trixie could imagine.

Terrible, TERRIBLE writing.
I know. But it makes sense why she has a grudge.
exactly.
and none of that is Twilight direct fault.
