Well in the episode, the spines are poisonous, as Jasmine accidentally poisons Aladdin when she uses her tail to grab him when he falls from a cliff, and if Cadance has those as well, it might be a bit tricky to cuddle with her safely.

It does seem that chrysalis and cadence need each other like a parasite that helps it’s host
