yup, things like this that make me think her ‘magical negro’ role is actually more like ‘chinese hermit master’ and makes me understand why they give her martial arts skillz in fics. Most ‘magic negroes’ are really really friendly and jovial, and even voodoo priestesses tend to be when not predicting portents of doom. But Zecora is hella harsh. She’s like an African tribal version of chinese wu xia masters. I wonder when she’s break out the ‘hold two buckets of water’ punishment for Apple Bloom.
True, but the idea that they’re all just automatically bad, which is what Zecora’s actions seemed to imply here, espically considering she knows Spike personally, is never alright with me. It’s blatant racism.
Dragons aren’t exactly the most beloved of creatures.
I think you misjudged Zecora…She is not a nice pony.
Particularly when a lesson she wants to pass on, she seems fond of delivering it harshly and making the wrongdoer repentant. Remember Cutie Pox?
Also, she didn’t particularly rush to their aid when the town was to be eaten by parasprites either. She probably thought they had it coming and would teach them a lesson in humility.
Didn’t know that part, but what I said stands even more because of it.
It’s a trait present in Dungeons and Dragons, which Hasbro also happens to own. Which makes Zecora’s actions in this scene both jerkish and stupid.
All versions of dragons have that as one of their traits: when they give you something, they expect something in return.
I knew it! Zecora is a dirty sunworshipper!
I don’t remember such information coming from show.
She completely disregarded the fact that dragons have a very specific type of memory dedicated entirely to debts owed.
By taking the gem and not providing a service, she has effectively stolen from him.
However, dragons do not have the concept of ‘theft’, so it comes under the same idea as a loan. Now, the rate varies dragon to dragon, but the debt will increase over time. Now, Zecora owes Spike either a gem of equal value, or more gems later. However, Zecora has no intention of paying him back for the loan. Thus, Spike will forcibly collect the full debt at a later date.
I get that, and it’s a legit concern, but she should have fucking talked to him before a bit (a found out he wasn’t planning to hoard those gems, but eat them) before just resolving the situation in the most douchbag way possible.
She was right though, focusing on the gems was what was screwing up his ability to look after the pets.
What I’m curious about is how the Girl Scouts and the CMC get on. I mean, they get all those badges for the stuff they do and the CMC have received nothing for all their attempts to earn their butt tattoos.
Anyone else see what’s wrong here?
interesting…
