Description

Here’s a refreshing break from the “spooky” vampire fruit bats, to this adorable little chiropteran. Although the name of species of Ponyville’s local bats was never mentioned, judging by the big ears, short prognathism, and the fact he uses echolocation, he is a type of microbat. These make up most of the bat population throughout the whole world, and I can imagine Equestria and beyond. Their diet is vast; while most eat insects, like mosquitoes and moths, some eat fruit, fish, small animals (as well as other bats), nectar and pollen, and of course drink (NOT suck) blood. No matter the species though, microbats receive the worst image and greatest fear and animosity of all members of the Chiroptera order. It’s nice, however, that Hasbro presented them in a more positive depiction, as well as make them adorable and demonstrate their use of sonar and ultrasonic frequency, even if said frequency was high enough to shatter glass cups. It is interesting that all the bats of Equestria appear to be diurnal as well as nocturnal. On earth, on one species of microbat is truly diurnal - the Azores Noctule (Nyctalus azoreum). I guess in Equestria ponies or somecreatures look out for the bats and defend them from aerial predators now and again. Only Celestia knows, or perhaps Fluttershy.

I’m not done with the vampire fruit bats. There are a few left I plan on submitting. And don’t worry, there will still be more of these cute little fellas too.
