In Wrath of Khan, it was because Nemoy no longer wanted to do any more Star Trek movies.  
In FiM, it’s because Hasbro wants to sell toys.

The difference is… Spock wasn’t killed only to sell “Dead Spock” toys.

Reminds me of those people whom were against Spock dying in The Wrath of Khan, even before the movie had come out. They said that it should Never be done, as Spock was both a cultural icon, and an extremely important character in the franchise.
 
…and yet, after the movie had come out, the vast majority of people said it was a good idea, as it was executed extremely well. Hence why I quote SF Debris when he said in his review of the film:

I wish everyone, on both sides of the argument, or on neither, or whatever the hell, would just god damn shut up and wait until after the damn episode has aired. There’s nothing you can do but whine one way or the other, but at least wait until you have something concrete to whine over.
 
As it is, I just feel like either not doing any moderation, or going extremely heavy handed on everyone involved.

They don’t treat their complaints as predictions. They treat them as cold, hard fact when it isn’t.

Largely in part to folks that have simply prolonged the drama more by shitting on anyone that doesn’t like the idea of this change than by documenting any actual drama.
