Show canon will override any comic canon where it has been overriden in the past, but comic canon will continue (for example, I would love to see Swift Foot’s story to be continued in this S10 regards).

I suspected something like that would happen. I imagine one of the reasons is because they don’t want to confuse all the new readers they expect to be getting. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if they eventually do reference the older comics (it depends on how long they are still going to be around). Especially for the 100th issue.
 
A term often used for this is “soft reboot”.

Yeah, I assumed from the news posts from EQD and that one interview with the new head writer for the upcoming run that the supplementary canon from the comic would not be acknowledged at all once the new “season” takes over, hence my saying reboot. :X

Yup, its not a reboot. It is stories set after S9E25/the early times of S9E26, and waaaay before the later times of S9E26. It’s implied to be shortly after Twilight’s coronation, so no massive time shift or other change in character, but appears to be in the direction of more unification of the other species around Equestria under Twilight’s rule.

I don’t think it’s a reboot. I think it’s just like when IDW added Alicorn Twilight or the Cutie Marks to the CMC and so on but this time they give them the “season 10” brand for commercial purposes.

Oh you haven’t heard that the mainline IDW MLP comic will be rebooted into a 10th Season of the animated Friendship Is Magic cartoon that ended with Season 9? The new run picks up events between Twilight’s coronation and the episode “The Last Problem” and gonna explore what the cartoon couldn’t.

IDW always incorporated elements from whatever the newest episodes were. So even if this wasn’t marketed as “season 10”, they still wouldn’t ignore season 9.

I’m not leaving the fandom…FIM’s fandom isn’t going anywhere no matter what Pony Death and G5 do. I’m still going to remain a fan of the stuff I’m a fan of. I just do not accept season 9, and I will not read or watch anything that acknowledges it. The last episode of season 9 is the single worst episode of any show I have ever seen (and that includes Star Trek Enterprise and Voyager). I’ve encountered a lot of people that feel the way I do, and there are places out there where people only talk about the good parts of FIM. And people are still making art and fanfiction. I will not watch anything new coming out of Hasbro.

Nah I’m not leaving the fandom. I just completely disregard season nein, and anything that’s even tangentially connected to it or even acknowledges it. Since the “season 10” comics do this I’m ignoring them. All they had to do was just not acknowledge it. Since it’s mostly an original story anyway. But they did so I’m dropping these.
