If you mean how it changed the memories to remove Sunset? That was just a visual representation of Sunset being erased (the novelization states she was just absent from their memories which wouldn’t translate as well to visual medium). Yes it should have left suspicious gaps they should have questioned, but that’s a different issue than Wallflower’s intended sympathy.

It has never been shown to create fake memories. The closet was their inexplicably never questioning them (like how Midnight Sparkle was stopped without Sunset). And if Wallflower was supposed to be as bad as you say the narrative wouldn’t have redeemed her.
 
I get the criticisms agains Wallflower falling to show the intended traits to make her sympathetic. But why assume the worst and double down on what you don’t like as opposed to assuming the least worst which fixes the problem?

I agree Starlight was horribly misguided and the narrative should have done better at acknowledging such.
 
As for Wallflower, it’s stated she was being ignored since 3rd grade, and shown she only found the Stone after Friendship Games. Her being ignored was a problem LONG before she used the Stone. I can fault the work for failing to show that.
