That’s been my own headcannon since Starlight’s redemption. Pretty sure this was an animation error and they didn’t plan it, but I like to look at it this way. Like it was Twilight’s predetermined destiny to meet Starlight and take her under her wing from the moment she became a princess.

Not sure if this would work if there’s only six elements. And I doubt Twilight could no longer be the wielder otherwise the others would all have to find new users for theirs, unless there’s a lost seventh element.
 
Though seeing as the Mane Six had the 2 of each race ratio, if there is someone new it’d seem most likely it would be a Unicorn who’d gone them and form the Mane Seven.

Or if that doesn’t work for you think about this one, when Twilight “completed” Starswirl’s spell it rewarded with death, it desintegraded her body, the only reason she became an Alicorn is because Celestia literally gave her a new body, maybe she altered her cutie-mark for some reason?

Either it means there’s a new unicorn replacing her in the Mane 6, or it means that she is now in possession of all 6 elements of harmony, and her friends are just sidekicks at best now.
