Well, since Stygian had more sympathetic motivations, maybe he wasn’t meant to be seen as big a threat as Chrysalis or Tirek.

Well, he is a 4-metre tall armoured beast capable of smashing through solid walls without even flinching and quite possibly being able to wreck a pony if he got his hands on one, not to mention having a giant armada of airships and soldiers under his command. He didn’t really need that magic to be a threat, as seen in the movie prequel comic.

I don’t see him as a knock-off Hades, but he seems to be more like a comical imitation of Tirac from Rescue at Midnight Castle, despite the demonic centaur already getting a revamp. You probably didn’t notice but the My Little Pony Movie is very similar to Rescue at Midnight Castle: ponies have been invaded by monsters, four are meant to be used by the villain, the main ponies go and search for help, the villain’s minion has a change of heart and helps the heroes, and of course, there are the sea-ponies.

I kinda got the opposite vibe, at least from the trailer, where the trailer seems to pass of Tempest as the main villain while she’s really only a henchman. In the end, I feel like she got too big of a villainous role in the movie. Like, why not have the Storm King be the one who invades Canterlot, and then he sends Tempest away to capture Twilight?

With the storm king it probably didn’t help that the marketing for the movie felt like they were trying to make him come across as the movie’s actual villain

You could have been an epic dragon but instead they turned down the original design and made you into some sort of talking macaque.

Honestly, both of these villains were kinda underused. Would have loved to see what they could do if they both got more screentime and focus.

Whatever dude. You were just better drawn, because movie. Angry Purple Horse and your fracking army did all the conquering. All you had to do was show up and absorb the magic. And what happened? Stoned. Then broken.

I don’t know, knock-off Hades, how does it feel to be a carbon copy from a movie 24 years ago?

Discount Venom! Good one! Hahaha Since the Pony of Shadows looked like an MLP version of Venom. And the Storm King said it, that just reminds us of his comedic side to his evilness.
