The teaching scene for twilight was also requested by the fanbase due to the one in equestria girls coming off as exceedingly charming.
 
Her flight was also used as a last moment screen fade out transition to end the episode during a song so it kinda was already breaking the rules.
 
It’s not like it was part of a major action sequence or a fight scene.

Just like how in the end of Magical Mystery Cure, Twilight was flying easily, but in the beginning of the Season 4 premiere, she had trouble flying and had to be taught my Rainbow Dash.
 
But I guess we can forgive the writers for that since The S3 finale was supposed to be the series finale but it’s a different talk for the Spike scenario.

Ah yes, the episode where previously, spike could out fly a Rok, which preys upon dragons, but now he can’t fly in a straight line without slamming into something and has to be taught by smolder how to fly, of which she has no reason to do so since she specifically singled spike out to bully him.
 
Following that, Spike makes a gift for smolder to thank her, which she promptly lies that dragons don’t use pillows specifically to reject his gift and be a punk to him.
 
AND following THAT, the mane 6 and everyone around them have their brains leak out their ears as they give the weakest interrogation of what sludge had to say and take it as full truth without checking any of it.
 
Then we’re supposed to be surprised that sludge was a bag of manure.
 
The whole episode was a worse executed dragon quest where the theme was “it doesn’t matter where I come from, but who loves me NOW”. Worse executed as it needed smolder to be manic and switching personalities repeatedly and the entire cast to be total idiots and for spike to regress several seasons in character development for it to happen.
