*Crescendo, who was pacing back and forth in his room, sighed deeply until he heard a knock at the door*
Crescendo: Nova, please, I don’t want to talk about it anymore.
???: I’m not Nova! Can I come in?
*Crescendo recognizes the voice and opens the door to see the pink unicorn standing behind his door*
Crescendo: Luster.. What are you doing here?
Luster: I wanted to see if you were ok.. I overheard the conversation between you and your sister.
Crescendo: Luster, please don’t..
Luster: Can I just say something? Please?
Crescendo: *raises an eyebrow at her but sighs again and nods*
Luster: Now don’t be mad, but, I agree with Nova..
Crescendo: Of course you would.. I’m sure most SANE ponies would.
Luster: What’s stopping YOU then? Everypony knows how powerful you are, how wise you are.. You’ve come a long way from that spunky little colt I met in Magic Kindergarten; You deserve this more than anypony.
Crescendo: You just don’t get it, Dawn… *hangs his head and frowns* No matter how many ponies tell me or try to prove to me I deserve this, deep down… I can’t escape the feeling I don’t. A pony like Nova deserves it more..
Luster: But Nova has her place already! She’s following after her father and has earned her place as Captain of the Royal Guard. But you, Crescendo, you have earned YOUR place as ruler; *lifts his chin up* And you DO deserve it. You just need to believe in yourself.. We all believe in you. Your mom isn’t a dummy.. Neither is Princess Luna, or any other pony telling you the same thing. Everything will be fine.. I’m sure of it.
Crescendo: … At least one of us is. *lifts his head and looks at her before bringing a small smile to his face* Thanks Luster. I still have a few things to think over, but I needed that.
Luster: Anytime.. I know Ponyville will be in the right hooves.. and if there ever is a problem you can’t handle by yourself, you’ll always have us; and we’ll be there right by your side faster than Rainbow Dash heading to Sweet Apple Acres opening day of Cider Season! *laughs a bit*
Crescendo: *laughing too* I don’t think anypony can be THAT fast.

I like the headcanon that Luster Dawn became sort of a second sister to Crescendo. With her being Twilight Sparkle’s best student, I like to imagine she and Crescendo grew up together. (Since Twilight kept Luster around a lot)

Originally, Twilight did want to try and set her son up with Luster Dawn, forcing play dates and study sessions; but as the years went on, she noticed their relationship was anything but romantic.. But nonethless, they still became close.
To Crescendo, Luster Dawn is like another sister.. But Crescendo never truely appreciated Luster being there for him until after his corruption. After Nova and her friends rescued him from the darkness and saved his life, Luster Dawn was there to help him during recovery, taking shifts between her, Nova and Apple Spritz. Now, Luster considers Crescendo her first real friend before being sent to Ponyville.
(And yes, I do headcanon Luster Dawn as a Sunburst X Starlight ship baby. It just feels right)

This short story btw, it’s about Twilight Sparkle passing on the Castle in Ponyville to Crescendo to rule over.
With Twilight Sparkle living in the Canterlot Castle and gaining her new title as “Ruler of Equestria”, that left the Castle in Ponyville empty.. Which is where Crescendo comes in as the new “Prince of Friendship” so to speak, or as I like to headcanon, the “Prince of Harmony”.

Crescendo doesn’t feel he deserves to rule over Ponyville and take over the map quests after what happened to him in his past. The fact he has the Pony of Shadow’s powers within his heart makes him feel unworthy, despite the fact he can control these powers at will. He feels guilty, and unsure about his role as Prince. But I’m sure his mentor, Princess Luna, has plenty to teach him about not punishing himself or feeling guilty about what he did in his past, and how to move on from it…. with the help of some close friends, of course.
