He learned from the other panels, being an asshole to people not always funny, so I kinda believe he stopped acting like a closet-brony..
 
But instead accepting, he has become one of us.

I just wish I could act like a smug bastard to people in a public forum and have it be seen as humorous.
 
If anybody has advice on how I can do that, I’d deeply appreciate it. (Believe me, I’ve been trying that schtick for 16 years.)

It’s humor guys…don’t need to call him an asshole simply because you don’t share the same sense of humor. It seems like people are getting really mad over some jokes :P

Casual fans don’t spend hundreds of hours making fan animations.

Max has explained that’s his humor, insult comedy. And that is OK in my book, people are just too easily butthurted.

He does like the show, and I don’t think he actually hates bronies. He even has an interesting (and serious) article on his site discussing the show, and the whole brony phenomenon. It’s a pretty good read.
 
Overall he considers himself more of a casual fan, as he stated in the article, and not a “super-obsessed” one. I’m kinda like that to, I guess, the only show merchandise I have is the IDW comics.  
(I told a friend if I ever start buying the toys, he can kick my ass. lol though I admit the Derpy “collectable figurine” from Hot Topic is tempting…)

Wow, I dislike this guy even more now. He was such a fucking asshole here. I don’t care if he’s trying to be funny; he wasn’t good at it.

He’s not an asshole, it’s an act and a shtick. He’s a pretty nice guy outside of panels.

Yeah you assume that. But people who act like act like dicks will always act like dicks no matter if they’re well known or not.

Fans change people.  
It’s really that simple.  
I really doubt Max or any popular person acted like a dick when he/she was unknown.

He actually doesn’t have a very good presence in public speaking. Like a lot of animators (Arin included), he’s obviously introverted and is trying to cover it with arrogance. It isn’t welcome and obviously isn’t enjoyable for anyone to watch. He’s a great animator, voice actor, and artist, but he’s kind of a dickhead IRL. Maybe away from crowds he’s not like that, who knows. Maybe talking to him in person, one on one is better. I don’t know, I haven’t met him. But in a fandom that’s already full of socially awkward people who can barely string two sentences together when talking with other people, professionals like Max need to polish their public speaking skills and put on a more respectful and friendly air when dealing with the fans.
 
tl;dr Max Gilardi needs to grow up.

Well, Max acting like a douche is his whole public schtick.
 
He should have tried using his ‘public voice’ a bit more in a panel like that. Oh well.

Gilardi spends most of the panel insulting people and acting like a complete asshole. It isn’t even the “Oh he’s just messing around” kind of asshole. It’s the “Go eat a dick” kind of asshole.
