Hmmm. I guess the illustrators were not able to go back and fix their mistakes.
@Phoenixflambe
Exactly, I can’t blame Akeem S. Roberts for that because he is a new artist was probably not so aware of the other comics that they did have S1 Luna and Pink Celestia in their youth, so he would blame the editor for not keeping him on the lookout.
Rookie artist.
Which makes it more baffling why they didn’t use her S1 design her.
In fact, Celestia’s hair in that screenshot looks sort of more pink than her colored hair, which would mean her hair would be all pink when she was much younger. Which makes things more baffling for this comic issue there on why didn’t they use Celestia’s pink hair there.
Which flashbacks used her S1 design?
Only time I remember they used her S1 design in the comics was during the Nightmare Rarity arc.
S1 luna appear in the comics, i don’t know why filly luna have that hair.
And Celestia in flashbacks have a pink with slighty present celestia color tones.
Maybe the editor didn’t put attention to the illustrations of the new artist to say any detail about that.
The fact they won’t use pink-hair Celestia either is baffling too.
Why did they even have those glass-window depictions of Celestia being pink? How the hell did that happen if it turns out Celestia doesn’t have pink-hair back then?
I see the potion flashback in season 4 gets a pass due to the flashback can be pretty “inaccurate”(such as apparently there’s no other ponies in the castle when Luna snapped). But its pretty baffling they don’t want to use Luna’s Season 1 design for her younger depictions at all here.
I don’t remember if any other media used Luna’s Season 1 design when depicting her in a flashback/past or something.

Interesting that the vessel did not have a sail or engine (this was not the only thing that ended up on the bottom). In our world, there are motorless vessels that can drift down a river or in closed waters by exploiting water currents - this was very common in Europe. The site, “Crystal Sea”, is not on the rudimentary map from Hasbro. This area appeared to be in a tropical setting, which suggests Southern Equestria. Only three oceans around Equestria are known, “Celestia Sea” where the sun rises and “Luna Ocean” where the moon appears. Had first thought about whether “Crystal Sea” was a large lake, but it was a saltwater sea, and it is located in the east after the position of the sun in the sky.
It seems that this sea has strong water currents and strong tides, just like outside Lofoten in Norway where the Norwegian Sea meets the Vestfjord, which is actually an ocean rather than a fjord. Then it could mean that the Crystal Sea is a smaller part of the Celestia Sea, where it was possible for the ponies to use known water currents to move forward between localities that can be islands, peninsulas and mainland within a couple of day trips. Very similar to the Japanese Inland Sea. Kraken chose to settle there for a reason not mentioned here.
With logic, anyone can be theorized and explained.

That was just not an animation error and we don’t know if this happened before or after Celestia and Luna earn their cutie-marks in “The Journal of the Two Sisters”.
Roberts is not so bad in his style, but as you said; he is far too fresh on this, greener than green. Someone should have been there as an assistant to make sure that the errors can be detected and prevented in time. What was the G4 comic crew really doing at the moment?
Would have liked to see more well-known artist on this, but anyone who can sweep Starswirl off the field unmarked and all of a sudden is someone one should have respect for. This kraken looks promising …

Continuity error, rookie mistake.
That and little Celestia’s mane and tail are suppose to be pink only.
