I think it all comes down to how a girl show is handled. There’s always going to be the main boy character in a show centered around girls. And a formula that comes with the male character, is that the females will always pick on him and never give him respect.
It’s one of the sad issues with double standards. If spike was a girl, and the ponies were stallions-everyone would be in an uproar to have the interactions be changed. But because he’s a boy “hahaha women picking on a male character who’s done nothing to them. That’s hilarious, because usually it’s the opposite.” That’s how most companies see it, anyway.

Well, it’s not so much “us” as it is “the show”. We have the Elements of Harmony, a group bonded together by friendships made in under a day, with no Spike. Along with constant “All my friends are here! And Spike is here, too” style things going on in the show.
