If he’s not the source of many jokes in the show, at least compared to the others, he’s not a background character. Nobody’s gonna forget they have a male in the group. His absence is always gonna be noticeable.

How on Earth do you make the element of kindness as well as the first MALE PONY MAIN CHARACTER into a background character without anyone noticing? Applejack was easy, there’s no way you can pull that nonsense with Hitch.
