I feel like these are pretty legit, except for Hitch. I mean, come on, he’s a stickler by the rules, he’s the one that screams Teacher’s Pet of the 5. He’s that one student that always raises his hand to answer to the teacher, gets straight A’s, and would probably be the class president.
Though I could see Sunny being a star student, I could also see her be more like a rebel who is perfectly smart to keep up with the class, buuut she causes trouble and sits in the back when she doesn’t like the class. She’d either talk to Izzy and Zippor start an argument in the class with the teacher, no in between.

I agree with this! I think of her as some 50s student activist who wants to change her world for the better. Not always in the best way but she has the best of intentions.

Honestly, I hate to say it, but you’re right about that. Then again, the Equestria that Sunny Starscout grew up in isn’t the same as the one that Twilight was in. Still, on the other hand the fandom seems to be using this rebellious nature as a reason to hate poor Sunny, and claim that she is not as good a leader as Twilight was. To that I say this: Twilight was not perfect. She had plenty of flaws, some of which led to derision within the Brony fandom when they became apparent. However, it was her kindness and perseverance that led to her getting turned into an Alicorn in S3. Now, I cannot tell the future, so I don’t know what Hasbro or Boulder Media wishes to do with Sunny, and frankly they may do things with her, like turning her into a full Alicorn like Twilight, that the fandom any not like, but I don’t care. While many hate Sunny for her rebellious nature, I actually like it. I compare t to real life people like Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi who also went against the status quo, uniting their people through peaceful means (and I especially consider Sunny’s desire of ‘friendship for all’ to be like MLK’s dream were everyone can be treated equally). Now, Sunny did make some mistakes in the movie-she did give up a bit too easily a few times, and she didn’t react the best in certain situations. But the important thing is she learns from her mistakes, stays true to her values and desire for friendship, and improves over time. After all, no one would like a character that is perfect from the very beginning.

Yeah I’m going to disagree with you there, and it’s the only thing I disagree with the OP on. Inquisitiveness !== teacher’s pet. This is another example of where the comparison to g4 characters breaks down, because Sunny would be more akin to what Cosmas-the-Explorer and Background Pony #E11B said, and be much less willing to accept the teacher’s word on what’s what and even challenge them on it rather than being a suck-up like Twilight was.

Sunny would be the kid constantly arguing with the teacher and declaring “the book is wrong”. I know because I (kinda) was that kid.
 
Hitch would be the student that everyone likes and respects. He gets decent grades, not stellar, but everyone wants to be in his group in group projects because he always does more than asked, helps everyone, and keeps everything organized.

I agree. Sunny seems like she is less interested in keeping the status quo and more willing to say or do whatever she feels is right. For better or worse.
 
I can imagine her being fairly intelligent but nowhere near Twilight’s level and also more socially adjusted.
 
Sunny wasn’t ostracized by her other neighbors because of her lack of social skills. It was because of her controversial beliefs and how bold she was in showing them off.

Sunny would more likely be the “class rebel”, always challenging the teacher to prove what’s being taught.

Honestly, Sunny being a ‘teacher’s pet’ makes sense, considering her role as the current iteration of Twilight Sparkle. After all, Twi was also a teacher’s pet in G4, being highly regarded by Celestia while she was still under her care. It will be interesting to see if Sunny also has a similar love of books like Twi, or if she obsesses over something else instead.
