According to Pennsylvanian folklore the squonk is constantly crying in a depressive fit over its own existence.
The Squonk is a creature from the woodlands of Pennsylvania which is so ugly and miserable it hides away from all other creatures and spends its days crying over its sad state. When a hunter attempts to capture it, it dissolves in a puddle of its own tears.
On their 1975 album, A Trick of the Tale, Genesis included a song about the Squonk, titled “Squonk”. Steely Dan’s 1974 song “Any Major Dude” has the line “Have you ever seen a squonk’s tears? Well take a look at mine”.
The name usually has Twilight’s name somehow in it, so I didn’t trust it.
