The grimdark is grimdark, I belive what Twilight capable to become evil one day, but this too much.
Actually even when her friends getting old, time goes and I bet she found new friends, and even when her old friends gone she was surounded with many of new others.
Twililght Sparkle is a strong pony, she can handle the such of loosing, and she can handle to keep the sweet memories about old friends without damage to her and for her new friends.

It makes some amount of sense for Twilight to become bitter, possibly even antagonistic, from the despair of losing her friends, but it’s EXTREMELY out of character for her to start KILLING people.
Even for an angry, bitter, eye-glowing alicorn Twilight, it doesn’t seem fitting to go that far.

It would be interesting to see Twilight in the role of antagonist against Sunny, maybe hunting Sunny down over a misunderstanding or as a villain in an alternate universe.
