I want to leave this alone. But you know what? He has a point, Avatar is a terrible comparison to MLP. They’re both different worlds. If anything, you would probably compare Discord to Joker and Celestia to Superman and even use Injustice/DC universe as parallels when they’re not. It’s a kid’s show, not CW.

Regardless, attempting to redeem every villain is not short-sighted. It’s just not hypocritical. Morals that don’t apply in every situation are worthless.

Funny thing you mention Ozai. No, he was not redeemed, but he was depowered and incarcerated in a NORMAL prison for the rest of his life. He was not executed, turned to stone, or locked in a cage in an underground area to have no visitors or contact with the outside world ever again. I personally don’t really wish Cozy Glow in the canon show was redeemed, but I was hoping she would get a normal prison instead of being sent back to Tartarus, only for her to end up getting even worse. This isn’t about who deserves redemption, it’s about cruel and unusual punishment. That’s why I am fully intending to track down the head honchos in charge of the show and the comics one day to ask if there was a chance that these three were freed from stone after magic disappeared in G5 and spent the rest of their lives either in a normal prison or as homeless drifters stealing to survive. That’s also why people are attempting fan fiction works like this to “correct” the atrocity that was the way the villains (or at least Cozy) were punished.

Incidentally, you are indicating that you approve of a minor (albeit an evil one) being executed. When you do that you pretty much lose all respect from everyone.

Exactly, people keep going like “He feels bad in the end and says sorry” or “He had good intention” and I’m so tired of it. He just keeps doing bad things like he never even learned anything. And people are still okay with his behavior.

Even the show itself has a weird bias toward Discord. When he terrorizes the whole Friendship School and chases the students with a bugbear, Starlight was the one who apologizes to him instead of the other way around. What so he is suddenly the victim just because he was left out of the opening ceremony of the school? When did Discord become such a snowflake? At least Starlight actually tried to be better with all the chances she got but Discord never seemed to change. Other villains that had a chance to reform will never have it again because he was somehow allowed to turn them into stones, even though Discord is the cause of everything and one that enables them to continue being bad. Yet Discord is free
with all his powers to do it all again while the villains he tricked have to suffer.

Fitting words from a mare who was willing to condemn a child to a life in an empty metal cage. I hope she gets put in her place so the trio can finally be given the second chances that they deserve.

No they weren’t. Only Chrysalis was ever given a chance, but even that was weaker then the help that Starlight and Discord recieved.

I dislike Discord as a whole, but I’d be more then okay with his reformation if he wasn’t given special treatment every time.

For what is worth, I agree with you to an extent. This fandom has a weird tendency to want to sympathize with every villain of the series to the point it’s weird to call them tragic. And I mean sometimes villains are more interesting staying villains. But saying that they don’t even deserve to live is going overboard. This Celestia is definitely not a very good Celestia as not even she is that cruel. On the other hand,

I really wish Discord had gotten some sort of retribution for all he’s done. He is given too much slack, both in-universe and in the fandom. I never get why so many people defend Discord so much when he is more dangerous than all the other villains combined, reformed or otherwise. I mean he doomed Equestria 3 times after all. They even gave him permission to turn the villains he himself released into stones. If justice does exist in Equestria, Discord should’ve at least had his powers stripped from him.
