Adopted niece is a thing that can happen (I have one), but it implies a sibling’s adopted daughter (in my case) or an adopted sibling’s daughter, which is why Luna is giving Celly that look. And at least in my case, I never mention the adopted part, or that technically she’s my half niece, because her adoptive father is my half-brother (our family tree is a bush :-).

How do you become an adopted niece, after 10 years someone explain to me already
Maybe it’s another Celestia quirk where she’d feel old if she called her “adopted daughter” same as with calling herself “Princess”
