“Scootaloo, I…”
“You what? You know what I’m going through? You understand?”
“I just-”
Scootaloo whirled on her hero, tears streaming down her eyes. “Is that it? You understand, Rainbow Dash?” She couldn’t help it, couldn’t stop it. It wasn’t fair. It just wasn’t fair. Rainbow had everything- ponies who admired her, an amazing flying ability… parents. Scootaloo… she had nothing. And she’d just wanted, in one way, just one way, to be like her hero.
And now this.
“You DON’T understand!” The little pegasus shouted. “You’ll never understand! You can fly!”
Part of me really wants to see Scootaloo fly. Part of me really wants her to remain flightless, and show how she copes with that. But, with all of the other sad headcanons I’ve seen- from her being a homeless orphan to just being called a chicken all the time- I feel like that might just be a little too cruel to my fav CMC. Sweating a little…

Part of me really wants to see Scootaloo fly. Part of me really wants her to remain flightless, and show how she copes with that.
There is a logical compromise:
Both the show and the comic exhibited technology that could help Scootaloo get flying if she’d never be able to do so naturally. Introducing her to the wonderful world of aeronautics would allow her dreams to come true without simply sweeping her disability under the rug.

I’d like to point out that flying isn’t related to her future plans or dreams unlike Rainbow. It’s just peer pressure because she’s a pegasus.
Sure, if one looks exclusively at “Flight to the Finish”. But there are also dream scenes in “Bloom and Gloom” and “Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep”, plus the sea pony part of “Surf And/Or Turf”, which strongly imply that some part of her yearns for the experience of flight. Plus various shots of her expressing interest in the Wonderbolts.

Not every character needs a tragic parent backstory XD
I would prefer flutters to be an earth pony and pinkie a pegasus. Would fit more with earth ponies having a bond to nature and pegasi being hyper active.

Notoriously Divine Tagger - Consistently uploads images above and beyond the minimum tag requirements. And/or additionally, bringing over the original description from the source if the image has one. Does NOT apply to the uploader adding several to a dozen tags after originally uploading with minimum to bare tagging.

I like that take on orphan Scootaloo. Imagine if Fluttershys parents were crueller, maybe they would have disowned Fluttershy for not being a real pegasus for her timidity and flightlessness.
I can imagine a more PG reboot of MLP having these concepts.

A Scootaloo that does not fly is more interesting.
It’s all about not needing to conform and let what others do define you, but rather your own talents.
In fact that was supposed to be her whole arc (with her discovering her talent for scooting is worth more than flying) but then Hasbro dropped & forgot it like a lot of other stuff.

Not clear on why she’s snapping at RD though.
Btw I’d have definitely preferred Scoots to be an orphan and flightless.
Maybe even abandoned by a Cloudsdale mother because it was clear from birth that she couldn’t fly.
It would make it pretty sweet that she could still lead a happy life in Ponyville where she is cared for and finds friends like AB, SB and RD.
But that would certainly be too dark for the show.
