Despite that name discrepancy (which only came about when Alicorns disappeared), Alicorns are still above Pegasi, Unicorns, and Earth pony kings and queens on the royal hierarchy. Truth be told, this is something that I hope we see in G5-Queen Haven now having to deal with a pony that is above her, being the head of the entirety of Equestria, including Zephyr Heights. It would make for an interesting dynamic.

Well, alicorns can only be princesses, remembering the G4, but you have to remember that unicorns, pegasi and earth ponies can become Kings and Queens.

Hopefully this dynamic is explored more in the series. I would love to know what new challenges Sunny faces now that she has those Alicorn abilities. My guess as to why she doesn’t have physical wings and a horn yet is that she hasn’t fully accepted them, and therefore they can’t form fully on her. When she learns to accept her new responsibilities a la Twilight in S9, then her wings and horn will be permanent like with any other Alicorn.
