This.
This is a perfect way to criticize in a way that won’t just get people to think “Oh, another troll”. I get what he’s saying, I can understand why the person doesn’t like said piece, and I actually kind of agree with him.
I also agree with the fact that it was still enjoyable, for me anyways. I personally saw it as a fan episode. I didn’t watch it for an epic story, I just saw it so I could enjoy some pony while waiting the rest of the year for official pony.
And i was satisfied with the experience I got. The random PPG crossover was…out there, but it still made me smile and I still enjoyed the animation.
Wrong Image.
Twilight makes a potion which makes ponies better at there talents. Dash steals the potion for herself and shows off her ability by trying a “Double Rainboom” which causes her to rip through the cartoon universe and end up in another cartoon. Then her wings become paralyzed and she is trapped in the power puff girls world and hiding from the PPG. Pinkie then saves her with her extra 4th wall powers gained from the potion. They then finish with dash writing a letter to Celestia about her experience while the ponies of ponyville repair the place.
^ Too Short for my liking.
Like the original king kong movie
It could have been saved by doing what Peter Jackson did with the movie.
(giffing for attention)
The time used for showing needless scenes (dash showing off, strung out references and long lasting memes. Random stuff stuff in the background would be fine) could have been used to tell more story.
For example while dash was trapped in the Other cartoon universe they could have switched back and forth between dash exploring and the other ponies trying to make the potion (Twilight could forget how she made the potion or not have the right ingedients)and worry about dash not coming back.
The complainers are too busy whining about too many references when they could actually complain about something that could have affected the dam thing.
THE WRITING KILLED IT
I liked it though.
That’s fine. It’s not what I mean.
I mean the people that just go “It sucked” and leave it at that.
Like the first comment. Perfect example.
Don’t give them ideas. You know Sid.
and people will still do it
Oh… oh god… I just thought about another movie that was nearly no story and had a ton of references…
Vomits uncontrollably
…Double Rainboom is still better than that.
that would be insanely stupid.
so how long before people start blaming hasbro for the flaws?
I don’t think that’s at the heart of the issue. What people are more upset about is that this thing was hyped for so long AND had the backing of hasbro, that many were expecting something with a little more written quality.
Animation is fine though…
Among fan projects, its level of hype is second only to Fighting is Magic.
@Itsthinking
Anyone complains about the PPGs being OOC?
Yes, since 2011/early 2012 if I remember correctly.
wait…there was so much hype over it? i must have been under a rock, oh well, better for me.
Well yeah, the animation was great. No one has complained about that. I’ve also not seen complaints about Twilight’s voice. But literally every other thing, I’ve seen legitimate complaints about.
If there weren’t so many references, there would be no story. And even if there were a story, 95% of the voices are still terrible.
RIG listen, when someone promises a top quality fan animation that matches the show itself for over a year, you expect them to deliver on their promise.
Saying it’s fanmade is a terrible way to deflect criticism.
Cliches can be fine!
Unless they are JRPGs.
In that case they should avoid cliches like the plague.
They are explained, the “haters” agree that the animation was excellent. The voices however were just decent and the general structure was ruined by the constant overdose of refrences and memes.
Snowdrop focuses on the story instead of in-jokes and animation, so yeah, it is better.
Snowdrop was a little cliche, but it was less obnoxious.
