Why do Discord defenders sound like battered housewives making excuses for their abusive spouses?

There are people who hate both characters and people who love them both. There are also people like you who love Starlight but hate Discord and there are also people who are the other way around. I’m pretty sure people who enjoy Discord but dislike Starlight enjoy watching him because of his antics and because he’s been around longer than Starlight. I also have a feeling that said people and others who also don’t like Starlight may believe that the show went downhill after her redemption because of things they themselves are unhappy with. Call it hypocrisy if you want, but it’s here to stay, whether you like it or not.

I will ignore it if the same people also feel the same way about Discord instead of thinking Starlight is somehow worse than Discord, or that’s just hypocrisy and inequality.

I don’t know. It just seems like defending characters who are being bashed only leads to endless arguments since neither side can ever convince the other to change their mind, so I really think you should just ignore people bashing Starlight. Defending her will just stir up drama the same way defending Discord does.

Discord was also way better as a villain. His redemption is also pretty damn rushed because he was like “Oh no, Fluttershy won’t like me if I don’t be good” and reformed himself, which makes his sudden desire for alliance with Tirek have less sense because he completely forgot about Fluttershy then. Starlight did some regrettable thing but she was always genuinely regretful and apologetic and try to be better the next, while Discord continues to commit the same actions over and over again, and he won’t even immediately admit wrong, refusing to genuinely apologize when it counts. And people think Starlight has anger issue? How about the guy who literally tries to kill someone just because Fluttershy makes a new friend? The two are practically the same. One might be even better than the other, but somehow Starlight always gets the short end of the stick (less appearances in later seasons, too much unwanted hate, like she can’t even make a cameo without people screaming hatred for her) while Discord actually sleeps on a throne of his own ego.

Of course everyone is free to bash or like whatever character they care, so I have the freedom to defend Starlight’s honor when no one else will.

Never said they aren’t. Never stopped him when rightly earned.

However, nearly everything he’s put forth is either cherry picked, ignoring all context of action and effect, and boils down to wanting Discord’s special treatment to be justified.

Chrysalis is cruel, arrogant, violent and nacisstic. She’s hurt people and operated an empire that bordered on collapse and starvation for centuries.

Cozy we know jack all about and the Writers would rather throw a child with issues in hell and ignore them then give any context, but she is a borderline sociopathic entity at least.

Tirek is a prime example of inferiority complexes, entitlement and the expectation that his title and position mean anything outside of a bubble.

They all suck. Two of these three have infinitely better reasons for their actions and the third is a child, and thus barring the ass pull of her being an abomination disguised as a pegasus has a severe need for context as to why she wants what she does even if it’s just because she likes the power.

Discord, like Q, is just an asshole with more power then he rightly should have.

Are all three of the trio assholes? Yes. Are they deserving of repercussion’s? Yes.

Does any of that justify Discord getting treated like a decent person after recklessly endangering the entire planet and once again showing he hasn’t changed in the slightest?

Nope. Not at all.

Well, let’s just say the writers wanted to make interesting stories with both characters, but they may have been a little careless and neglected to consider some people’s reactions to what they did with the characters. Discord has been popular for being a wild and interesting character voiced by a famous celebrity, while Starlight was generally well-received as a villain, but her redemption felt rushed for a lot of people who also felt she had a questionably thought up backstory. She also did some things after her redemption that some people were displeased with. Some people also are a little annoyed by her anger issues. I don’t hate Starlight, I’m just explaining why she’s controversial.

The only thing I have a problem with is hypocrites and special treatment, and have actively criticized all four of the villains involved before.

Discord, and by extension every argument used to make him out to be a decent person at this point, are built on those two points.

Like him all you want but don’t pretend he’s remotely better then anyone else, villain or otherwise.

Because at that point it’s delusional.

Well, the bashing is justified when the character actually is an irredeemable dumbass who decided to put the whole world in danger and only decided to act up when everything finally falls apart while everyone else tries their darnest to remedy the situation he created, like Rarity throwing a rock to stop the three from straight out murdering Twilight or Starlight teleporting Chrysalis away to keep the students safe. And then after all is saved, he swept literally all the mistake under the rug to evade consequences. Of course he had to bow to the new princess of Equestria so he wouldn’t need to be punished for what he’s done. He is now running around free like a bird while the people he manipulated and used are statues that have no chance of being saved or saving themselves, all because he wanted to shirk responsibility.

It’s even worse when Starlight using magic to thwart off danger (which ironically is Discord himself) or it’s done by accident, people call it “abuse” and “irresponsible”. But when Discord steals someone’s identity, use his power to bring back a king of fear and darkness, and allow three dangerous people to run wild causing havoc, it’s fine because “he is a chaotic creature. It’s what he does.” So why does the good and responsible character deserve bashing while the awful and dangerous character gets excuses and even praise?

He may be all powerful but he’s as fallible, if not more so then, then literally any random joe off the street.

This means him continuously endangering others with god like power is, literally, worse then stripping him of his magic.

You are literally giving him every single feature of a god and pretending that justifies him being a cruel, sycophantic, selfish, reckless thing that Celestia forces the rest of the world to tolerate.

He’s still in the wrong. He still is being protected like a spoiled politicians child caught in a drunk manslaughter case (“He knew everything would be fine, thats why he’s not bad for breaking laws, to quote your pretty little ‘argument’) getting no jail time.

If I was in their world and found out about this I’d be doing everything in my power to make sure the entire world knew-and to know exactly who’s keeping the warcrime personified walking free because they’re his “friends”.

U didn’t watch the show 😂 this gaslighting is crazy, discord told the mane six to save equestria in the finale. He put himself in harms way to help save equestria. No one only doing things to save their own skin would do that.

If you are going to abuse the powers given to you, you do not, in any way shape form or anything else, deserve them.

And the fact you believe Discord would save anyone other then Mane Six when he’s actively let several dozen people get hurt during his monstrous little ploy is so laughable.

He only did anything to save his own skin, and anyone not worshipping him like a saint can see that.

So bottom line: Power gives you the right to do whatever you want, even lying and manipulating people. And weaklings just have to accept or even celebrate being abused. Discord is just an abuser that cannot be stopped anymore because of his tremendous power. Got it, Discord has the power that gives him the right to hurt others, which literally makes him a tyrant. In conclusion, Discord is a tyrant.

When can people defend this guy without making him sound worse?
