It’s based off of an old saying – “when all you have is a hammer, the whole world looks like a nail”. It means that when you have a method of doing things you like and/or have found to be reliable, everything looks like it can and should be solved by using that method, regardless of whether it actually should.
In this case, Twilight is the princess of friendship – it’s pretty much in her job description that she solves her problems through talking, empathy and diplomacy, and she’s never been in a situation where this failed her. As a result, she’s come to expect that every problem can and should be solved through friendship, even when this may not actually be a viable option.

Now that I think of it again I worded it wrong. He would get in, strike down the foe and complete the mission while leaving the political matters for the others. He would be a sledgehammer (overt and sent when only force is the solution or the last one remaining.
Now this is a situation where having someone like a reformed Sombra would be quite useful. One who will swiftly and brutally crush all opposition with no qualms or second thoughts and will enforce order.
Too bad Celestia is still the biggest hammer in Equestria.
The real problem is when that hammer encounters a bigger hammer that’s more than willing to smash it as if it were a nail
I see

Don’t worry about it; it was the 18th century. Humans were less evolved then and had really long necks and no chins for some reason.
The Hell is wrong with his face?
Hey, you’re right. Despite her blatant faults, she was rather practical that time
Funny thing is that if this were Movie!Twilight, she would have agreed with Celestia.
Thought he meant the other kind of reformed.
Not a cloud of smoke?
@Perteks
Me neither

You sure reformed is the right word?
Well, they could do that, sure. Or they could just…
“Only if they’re friendship lasers.”
