That would only help if one already knew what ‘zalgo’ was. While one could censor it after the first time seeing it, there ate likely other things that fall under the same ‘creepy’ tag that would also need censoring in the future, and censoring that one specifically wouldn’t help there.
As for grimdark, multiple different things can fall under its umbrella, including general gore and rape, which may not have the same impact on someone that creepy things would. I’m aware that some people have a rape fetish, for instance, but they may still find images like this disturbing to look at.
I’m not blaming you too much, but just for future reference, try to make sure the warning tags are something most users who wouldn’t want to see that content would have censored, rather that something specific they wouldn’t know of, or something more broad that may block out other things they may like.

In principle, I agree that images ought to be well-tagged upon upload.
With both “grimdark” and “zalgo” present from the start, that seems like it was easily good enough for basic searching/filtering..?

To whoever’s posting these; post them with warning tags, would you?
Specific stuff like fetishes, psychedelic and seizure-inducing imagery, and creepy/grotesque stuff needs to be tagged when originally posted, as that time is the most seen the image will be and a lot of people, including myself, don’t like to view those images. A lot of us have also spoilered/hid those tags so we don’t have to see these, and having stuff that you’ve specifically blocked popping up on the front page can be rather irritating to deal with.
