Knowing sign language isn’t terribly common, so a character knowing it can easily imply they’re deaf. If anything, it’d actually be kind of an amusing counter to the usual bat trait of being blind. She’s way too much of a chatterbox though. A batty chatty bat, as it were :P

Neither of them are deaf. Just, they both happen to know sign language. But they know different languages of sign language. But, there’s enough overlap between the two kinds of sign language that they can at least somewhat communicate. One of the New Mane Six will just happen to know French; it definitely won’t be Batty French (that puts extra emphasis on the eeee’s) but it’ll be similar enough :P

They don’t speak the same language, but they both know sign language. Unfortunately, Izzy knows ESL (Equestrian Sign Language) while Souris knows LSF (French Sign Language), so they STILL only catch about half of what the other is saying XD
Eventually. Right now she’s busy fawning over Izzy, while Sprout is thinking “Oh god now there’s two of them!” and Sunny is hiding from Jagarti :P

The whole point is for the audience to be like Sunny here- completely mystified as to what she’s saying.
