It looks more like shining is being a hippie junkie instead of military rather then a gender swap.
I could imagine him like this in a spinoff where he protests in front of the royal castle against defending equestria and demanding just letting the changelings into the kingdom. He would have signs with slogans like:
Love must be shared
Borders are just imaginary political lines
Defund the royal guards
Evil terrorizing brainwashing bugs are equal to ponies
and such…
